Hans Falk (1918-2002), a Swiss painter and graphic designer, accompanied the "Knie" circus on its tour of Switzerland in 1977. Fascinated by the circus, he published the book "Hans Falk - Circus zum Thema" (ABC-Verlag) and the documentary "Circus Blues" (FilmArts)
Henry Miller wrote "The smile at the foot of the ladder" in 1948, an "almost novel" about a character dear to the author: the clown, about whom he would say: "The clown is the poet in action.
He is the story he plays. The clown has a deep attraction for me (although I didn't always suspect it), precisely because laughter stands between the world and him. His laugh is never homeric. It's a silent laugh without cheerfulness, as they say. The clown teaches us to laugh at ourselves. And that laughter is born of tears. Without a doubt, this is the strangest story I have written to date. "
Exceptional exemplary: it is a model of the work, some parts of the text of which are laminated.
It includes magnificent paintings, sketches, original drawings and prints enhanced by Hans Falk.
Very good condition.
