Red half-marbled binding. Smooth spine with a golden floret, golden G initial and small golden grid on the caps. All edges gilt. Rubbed hairstyles. Discoloration on the plate of volume 2.
This travel diary, Paris-Marseille et retour, calligraphied manuscript in 12, is a collection of letters written at each stage (Sedan, Ghent, Mulhouse, Basel...) by A. de Grateloup to M. de Brancas, duc de Lauragais and his sister Camille, between 6 September 1812 and 1 December 1813.
The style is extremely elegant, pleasant to read, even if the spelling has changed since then. It is about architecture, cathedrals, commerce, the textile industry or armaments, but also about personal encounters during these journeys by stagecoach which would seem to us today to be unbearably slow and long.
