The Baron de Férussac, a French naturalist, was called to Spain and distinguished himself at the headquarters in Zaragoza. Appointed aide-de-camp to General Daricaud in Seville, the various missions carried out enabled him to gather a great deal of information on the ancient geography, archaeology, geology and natural history of Andalusia and Spain in general.
