FIRST VOLUME (of three) of the Ukiyo gafu collection of prints, Images of the Floating World by Ikeda Eisen (also known as Eisa Keisen). The last of these volumes was produced by the great Hiroshige.
This collection explores everyday life in Edo-era Japan, as well as mythology and representations of flora and fauna, all in the pure, often energetic and even humorous style so characteristic of works from this period, when Japan had not yet entered the modernity of the Meiji era.
Rare copy
Charming specimen
