A kind of manual dedicated to settlers or future settlers in Louisiana. It contains the translation of a few sentences and a song as well as a lexicon of two languages "of savages": on the one hand that of the Naoudoouessis, and on the other hand of the Chipouais. A French traveller and polygrapher, Baudry des Lozières (1761-1841) was first a lawyer and then embarked on a military career, becoming colonel inspector of dragons in Santo Domingo, and finally advisor in Port-au-Prince in 1789.[nbsp
]He published a follow-up to this work, under the title Second Voyage à la Louisiane in 1803, containing new vocabularies and focusing on colonial medicinal botany.
Very good condition.
