FRENCH ORIGINAL EDITION  relating among other things the stay of the first European in the city of Timbuktu. The original English edition of 1816 was translated into 4 languages.

Robert Adams, had embarked on board the Charles, a ship bound for the Cape Verde Islands and which sank on 11 October 1810 on the Sahara coast. He was taken prisoner and made a slave by the Moors of this region, crossed the desert to Soudenny, then to Timbuktu where he stayed for 4 months, then went to Taoudeni and crossed the Western Sahara, staying with the Ouled Delim for about ten months, then with the Ouled Bou Sba. He finally arrived in Goulimine, where he stayed for more than a year. It was bought spine in August 1813 and went to Mogador, crossing the small kingdom of Sidi Hachem in Tazeroualt. He stayed 8 months in Mogador with the English vice-consul, Joseph Dupuis, who had intervened to free him. After meeting the Moroccan Sultan in Meknes, he went to Tangier, then to Cadiz, where he stayed for another 14 months, and finally to England in July 1815.
