Bound in contemporary dark green half-chagrin. Four ribbed spine, with gilt fleurons, author's name and title. All edges gilt. Good condition of the contents decorated with 36 black and white steel engraved plates of which 10 are coloured. All the engravings are under serpents.
After writing Le voyage pittoresque en Suisse, Émile Bégin followed up in 1852 with this book, which takes us to the wonders of Portugal and Spain. We have a beautiful overview of the latter, through superb engravings. Of course, there is little chance of finding these same views today, but this window on the past is worth the detour.
