Leather-edged slipcase and under shirt in brown half maroon with overlaps. Bound in full morocco green bottle. Nervous spine decorated with a lemon scroll. Two double gold nets and a set of listels with Art Nouveau curves, lemon and rust mosaics and set with a golden net framing the boards. All edges gilt. Interior gold wheels and small irons, black, green and gold embroidered silk lining and guards, second paper guards decorated with small floral motifs. Original paper covers and spine bound in. Not trimmed. Binding signed Lucien MAGNIN.

ORIGINAL EDITION published for the Academy of Fine Books and directed by Octave Uzanne, who designed the paper.
It is illustrated with 140 compositions on each page of text, executed by the great artists of the time: Léon RUDNICKI (cover, frontispiece, justification and title), Alexandre LUNOIS (La Madone, 18 colour lithographs), Eugène COURBOIN (L'Antichrist, 38 watercolour compositions), Carlos SCHWABE (L'Immortalité, 33 compositions, including 10 inch sizes in black and 23 large watercolour floral motifs), Alexandre SEON (La Fin du Monde, 47 "monochrome frescos", here watercolours).

Limited edition to 180 copies on vellum, according to Carteret.
Slight freckles on the introductory sheets and in fine, due to the ink on the cover illustrations and their colouring.

Unique copy whose drawings by Alexandre Séon have been watercoloured by hand.
