Binding of the period full rooted calf. Smooth spines decorated in a grotesque style with a title piece. Jaspered edges. Clean interior with scattered freckles, upper hairstyles of volumes 1 and 2 slightly damaged. Skillful repairs on the false title page of volumes 2 and 4.
Eminent surgeon and anatomist, Boyer was successively Napoleon's first surgeon, then consultant surgeon to Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis-Philippe.
