In a case. Full maroquin Jansenist binding in burgundy, nerffed spine, gilded edges, black paper linings with gilded motifs in the name of the publishers. All edges gilt. Binding signed GRUEL. Interior with a very nice freshness.

First edition of this charming book of hours inspired by medieval manuscripts, with beautiful ornaments and figures on each page, in colours and with golden highlights. The book was conceived with the newest technique of chromolithography, the rendering of which reached an as yet unknown level .

Copy of the publisher Edmond Engelmann, with his beautiful colour ex-libris bound at the top and a note from his hand at crayon : Copy of the very first edition chosen by me in 1869, E.  E.

A letter of thanks from Marie-Caroline, Duchess of Berry, dated 1866, was attached at the top. She thanks for " le magnifique ouvrage de M. Angelman" (sic).

Beautiful and interesting example.
