ORIGINAL EDITION of this collection of poems of struggle and resistance published semi-clandestinely and without censorship visa by Noël Arnaud, main director of the editions of the neo-surrealist group "La main à plume" and future high-flying oulipoist. The first of these poems is the very beautiful and well-known "Liberté", others were composed at the front, between August 1916 and July 1917, or were inspired by the Spanish war; some were published in clandestine magazines. Despite the date of the printing, the edition was actually published in October 1942 according to the practice of backdating books, allowing "small publishers to circumvent the new censorship provisions which, since April 1942, require an authorization number on each publication.
Copy enriched with a handwritten note signed by Éluard, attached on a loose leaf: "My dear friend, I forgot to attach the invoice to my letter. Here it is this time. To you".
A very attractive copy.
