"Paludes" is a work published in 1895 by André Gide. It's a playful satire of literary Paris. Gide calls this work a party. The story follows the narrator's writing of a book, Paludes, whose main character is called Tityre, in reference to Virgil's Tityrus of the Bucolics, described as isolated and solitary, taking refuge in a tower, all of which contrasts with the narrator's public life, which is reported here in counterpoint. This book is considered by contemporary literary critics to be one of the first modern French narratives".
