Roland BARTHES, Jules MICHELET

Paris  -  Seuil, coll. "Ecrivains de toujours"  -  1954

  • Format : In-12
  • Number of volumes : 1 volume
  • Binding : Paperback
  • Collation : 190 pp

In slipcase. Orange soft cover illustrated with a portrait of Michelet. Spine restored. Slight rubbing and creasing from use. Numerous black illustrations.

ORIGINAL EDITION, of which no large paper was printed. Enriched copy with a letter from Roland Barthes to Pierre Klossowski, a friend who lived a stone's throw away, also with his mother. Once a disciple of L'Immoraliste André Gide, Klossowski formed a compact, erudite and passionate group with Barthes, Butor and Balthus (his younger brother). Although Barthes later "drifted away", according to Butor, who was called away to other projects, they never stopped seeing each other, and it was Barthes who introduced him to Michel Foucault, another feisty character who was stopped in his tracks.

"To Pierre Klossowski
this, which perhaps
will interest him
June 1959"

Charming specimen
