The novel follows the coming-of-age (a Bildungsroman) of Mahoney, a bright young man living in the oppressive climate of rural Ireland in the 1950s. The book was banned by the Irish Censorship Board for "indecency" and "obscenity", notably because of its descriptions of masturbation and allusions to sexual abuse within the clergy and family.
Very good condition.
