The novel Les Voyageurs de l'impériale is the third in the series Le Monde réel. Aragon wrote most of it between October 1938 and August 1939, and the last hundred pages in the Chilean embassy in Paris where, threatened by right-wing extremists, he and Elsa Triolet had found refuge.
