While Bernanos evokes the memory of Toulet in *Under the Sun of Satan*, perhaps we see the same tribute in Pialat’s adaptation, with Abbé Donissan crossing the countryside in what resembles the “blue and black summer night” that serves as the setting for Le Souper interrompu.
