FIRST EDITION. One of 30 hand-numbered first-edition copies on Japanese paper, signed by the artist. Illustrated with 5 drawings by Louis Suire enhanced with watercolor. *The Interrupted Supper* premiered at the Monte Carlo Theater on December 4, 1928. While Bernanos evokes the memory of Toulet in *Under the Sun of Satan*, perhaps we see the same tribute in Pialat’s adaptation, with Abbé Donissan crossing the countryside in what resembles the “blue and black summer night” that serves as the setting for Le Souper interrompu.

A fine copy
