ORIGINAL EDITION of the French translation by Paul Rodocanachi. One of 25 numbered copies on Madagascar, the only large paper.
First published in 1929 by the British publisher John Murray, The Book of San Michele - named after the Capri chapel with which Munthe fell in love - recounts in 32 chapters the life of its author, the Swedish doctor Axel Munthe (who was personal physician to Queen Victoria of Sweden). A highly personal selection of memories that takes the reader from the society of Paris at the time (where the author was close to a significant number of personalities such as Pasteur and Maupassant) to the underprivileged milieu of Naples.
Very nice copy
