Published shortly after his death from typhoid, Le bal du comte d'Orgel is Radiguet's second novel - after Le diable au corps. In just two novels, Radiguet left an indelible mark on French literature. Cocteau, his friend and protector, even dared to compare him to another meteor:
"Radiguet shares with Arthur Rimbaud the terrible privilege of being a phenomenon of French letters".
