What fault has Fanny committed? What is she guilty of, to be so rejected by her own people, who don't seem to consider her one of them? For that matter, is her name really Fanny? What is she accused of in her twenties? Is it love affairs or insolence? Seducing her cousin Eugène or leaving her fiancé Georges, "who looked like her"? Had she gone through some crisis of youthful originality; was she the "black sheep" who upset every family; was she adopted, perhaps, or a "patch", as they say? None of these hypotheses seems to be borne out as the story develops.

Perfect condition.
