As soon as he arrived in China in 1909, Victor Segalen introduced himself to Paul Claudel, Consul of France in China. Paul Claudel's text had appeared in 1900 in Le Mercure de France, where a second enlarged edition had been published in 1907. It was in August 1913 that Claudel gave Segalen, whom he had met in Beijing, permission to reprint the collection in this beautiful collection.

Perfect condition, extremely rare in head draft.
