Boris Aronson (1898-1980), born in Kiev, was Alexandra Exter's assistant, who introduced her to Meyerhold. Linked to the constructivists, he published a monograph on Marc Chagall in Berlin before emigrating to the United States in 1923. In New York, he designed sets and costumes for the Unser Theatre, the Schildkraut Theatre, and mainly for Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art Theatre. From 1930, Boris Aronson worked for Broadway theatres: he staged about a hundred dramatic shows, operas, ballets and musicals

His groundbreaking productions have led to many changes in American theatre and have given him the status of the most influential artist in the world of modern theatre. His style, which combines cubo-futurism and constructivism, renewed American scenography.
