In January 1897, in the grey room of the Sarrailh House in Orthez, Francis Jammes wrote his "Jammes manifesto". Undoubtedly this manifesto responds first and foremost to naturism and its founder. A letter to Gide dated 20 January 1897 shows that his impulsive signatory immediately regretted the publicity that this movement of anger could give him. Through two different channels, he tried to prevent the publication of his text. In vain. The director of Mercure de France did not comply. The fantasy of the text seemed promising to him for the magazine and for a poet in the making, already recognized in France (by Gide, Mallarmé, Henri de Régnier, Edmond Jaloux, Henri Ghéon...) and in Belgium (see the Brussels magazine Le Coq Rouge and the article by Georges Rency...). The jambist manifesto was made public in March.

Correct condition.
