Ernest Renan, despite his education by priests, fully accepts the scientific ideal: The certainties of physics and natural sciences were revealed to Renan in 1846 by the future chemist Marcellin Berthelot then eighteen years old, and who was his student at Mr. Crouzet's pension. This correspondence , published after Berthelot's death, evokes the many oppositions of religious but also extreme right-wing leagues that the two men  had to face.

Very good condition.
