Leather-edged slipcase. Full binding in olive green morocco. Spine with four nerves decorated with a mosaic poppy in the central box. Three poppies and several flower buds mosaiced with red, green and garnet morocco with cold drawn stems on the lower part and lower corner of the first dish. Golden leaves, mosaic flowers and golden net inside, silk linings and guards brocaded with silver flowers, double guards. Gilded edges on witnesses. Original paper covers and spine bound in. Binding signed Charles MEUNIER. Book illustrated by François COURBOIN (1865-1926) and includes 100 non-text compositions stencilled by the artist and more than 200 black vignettes in the text. "Each of his hundred colour illustrations out of text is an exact document, an overview of a disappeared if not modified corner of Paris and Fashion only appears as a logical, essential accessory, leaving all the interest at the bottom of the scenery where the most fashionable aspects of our old city are found. As for the two hundred and thirty drawings in the text, they have all the charm, the verve and the lightness of the old vignettes of the 1840 School and will surely seduce amateurs" (pp. III-IV). The very beautiful cover was illustrated in colour by George Auriol.

Original Edition of this very beautiful work that Octave Uzanne wanted as "the expressive and artistic synthesis of everything that was written about our salons, our clothes, our ideas during the 19th century" (page IV). One of the first 10 numbered copies on Japan...[nbsp
