First separate edition of this short tale by Charles Nodier (1780-1844), which originally appeared in Paris, or Le Livre des cent-et-un (Ladvocat, 1831) and was later inserted in the Contes de la veillée. Considered one of the precursors of Romanticism, the author of Jean Sbogar (1818), elected to the Academy in 1833, was also the librarian of the Arsenal since 1824. A passionate bibliophile, he acquired for his own library old and rare editions showing a taste and quality requirements that prefigured modern bibliophilia. In 1834, with the bookseller Jacques-Joseph Techener (1802-1870), he founded Le Bulletin du bibliophile.

Very good condition.
