A copy of the famous novel that first appeared as a soap opera and earned its author immediate fame. This work contributed to the defence of the abolition of slavery in the United States in the second half of the 19th century. How did it do this? Simply by highlighting the famous black slave - Tom - a character at the centre of several stories involving black and white men.
