Binding of the half-calf tobacco era. Spine with finely spine with raised bands decorated with gilded fillets and cold mosaics. All slices marbled. inside with some freckles.
General Foy had a quick and brilliant military career: second lieutenant at 16, battalion commander before 20 and colonel in 1801. But his republican convictions blocked his career for seven years. He took an active part in all the campaigns in Portugal and Spain until the Battle of Orthez, where he was seriously wounded.
Very beautiful copy, in a superb period binding.
