Solid red long grain morocco binding. Smooth spine decorated with golden florets. Gold plated roller in frame on the boards. Weapons of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, in the centre of the boards. All edges gilt. Two portraits, the first of Latude, the second of Mrs. Legros who obtained the prisoner's release in 1784. Latude's signature on the spine of the false title to authenticate the edition.
THE BEST EDITION OF LATUDE MEMORIES, famous prisoner for 35 years on a stamped letter, who was an emblematic figure of the Revolution. The copy is enriched by an autograph letter (flying) from Latude, 3 pp. in-8, addressed to the Minister of Justice Lamoignon to complain about the counterfeits of his book, dated 6 October 1787.
