A large part of the book is devoted to the settlement of the Crusaders. The author describes the founding of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the County of Edessa, and the Principality of Antioch. She analyzes how these Western knights had to adapt to the climate, adopt Eastern ways, and coexist as best they could with the local populations (Eastern Christians, Muslims, and Bedouins).
A very fine copy.
