Binding from the granite brown calf period. Necked spine decorated, lack of boxed leather at the head and foot. Central medallion of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts of Bordeaux with the motto "Crescam and Lucebo" encircling a crescent moon, fleur-de-lis and academic palms interspersed in the motto (iron after the edition, the academy having been created only in 1712). Small gaps in the edges of the boards. Gold plated roulette on cups. Red slices Many illustrations and geometric drawings engraved in the text 

The first 52 pages make up the treatise on mechanics, pages 53 to 98 are devoted to the Abstract of Music, pages 101 to 127 are the Clarifications on Music (parts in Latin, others in French).

ORIGINAL EDITION of the treatise on mechanics (translations by N. Poisson of the Latin manuscript left by Descartes, which will only be published in Latin in 1701) and first French translation of the music abstract (first work by Descartes written in 1618). The treatise on Mechanics is only part of a larger work that Descartes intended to compose but did not produce.
